Since 2023, and increasingly in 2024, our focus at Rental Scale-Up has been on how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the vacation rental industry. As a lead writer here and Head of Product Marketing at PriceLabs, I’ve immersed myself in the world of AI, interviewing vacation rental managers and tech providers, and conducting workshops on how companies can leverage technologies like ChatGPT to scale content creation effectively.

This endeavor was not just about teaching others; it was also a learning journey for me—to deepen my understanding of AI and its applications as PriceLabs was busy introducing Generative AI in its revenue management platform.

This exploration was crucial as we developed and launched our latest offering, AI Insights, which utilizes generative AI to revolutionize how vacation rental managers can learn about marketing trends.

As I explained a few weeks ago, this is not PriceLabs’ first foray in AI. Its pricing algorithm have always been built on models and machine learning that belong to the AI field. It’s just that, until 2023, mentioning AI sounded complicated, so we did not do it.

In the context of AI Insights, generative AI processes existing data from our platform and produces summaries that are comprehensive and easy to understand. 

Here’s how it does it:

  1. Collect and Clean Data: First, it gathers data about your properties—like past bookings and price changes—and makes sure it’s tidy and organized.
  2. Analyze: Then, the system looks at this data to find important trends and patterns, like when bookings go up or what happens to prices during different seasons.
  3. Generate Insights: Using AI, the tool then creates helpful summaries. For example, it might tell you to expect more bookings next month based on what it has learned from the data.
  4. Easy-to-Understand Updates: These insights are presented in simple sentences that clearly explain what’s happening in your market, helping you make smart decisions quickly without needing to dig through complex charts or tables.

How AI Insights Enhances User Experience Without Altering Pricing Strategies

It’s important to note that while AI Insights transforms how information is presented, it does not modify the underlying pricing strategies directly. It does not change the pricing data recommendation we make.

Instead, it provides a layer of interpretation that helps users extract more value from their data without altering the core algorithms that drive pricing decisions. This means you can trust the integrity of your pricing models while also gaining additional insights to enhance your management practices.
